HOLOUBEK (THE WILD DOVE), Op. 110/B. 198, is an orchestra poem composed by Antonín Dvorák (1841-1904) in 1896. Revised in January of the next year, it tells the story of a woman who poisons her husband. Pretending to grieve at his funeral, she catches the attention of a young man who later marries her. But a wild dove lands on the grave of her murdered husband, eventually driving her to regret and suicide. The work premiered on March 20, 1898 in Brno, Leoš Janácek conducting. This critical edition is by Otakar Šourek, Antonín Pokorny, and Karel Šolc. Instrumentation: 2(1st d. Picc).2+EH.2+BCl.2: 4.3.3.1: Timp.Perc(3-4): Hp: Str (9.8.7.6.5 in set).
