Composer Peter Schindler on this separate edition from “Perpetuum mobile”:

In the wintertime everyone meets at the inn to gamble, putting themselves into the hands of King Decius, the patron saint of the dice game. But beware, lies and eternal deceit (Fraus eterna) lurk all around. In this game you can lose everything in a flash! The addiction to gambling originated in part due to the fact that people often gathered close together for warmth in cold weather. Out of sheer boredom people abandon themselves to a game of dice, which brings only pain and sadness. Here we are treated to an unsparing description of the conditions and milieu of this den of thieves.

The music is plaintive, the chords are occasionally unwieldy. This movement “Fraus eterna” on text no. 195 in the Codex Buranus is a kind of street ballad. The performance playfully calls for a woman of experience. She sings a warning of trickery and deceit to everyone who comes into contact with the dice. The singing can well be a little coarse.
