Composer Peter Schindler on this separate edition from "Perpetuum mobile":

It’s the eternal cycle: old age stands down, youth demands its rights. C'est la vie! "Omittamus" on text no. 75 in the Codex Buranus is a lively song of youth. It’s an undisguised invitation to students to escape their dusty books and devote their lives entirely to this world, because time flies past in a hurry!

This poem, grounded in life experience, is characterized by an impartial approach to the pagan figures of ancient mythology. Let us do as the gods do is a worthy motto! In the Middle Ages, the "old gods of antiquity" were no longer taken seriously as a danger. They were valued as an educational asset and a poetic artistic medium.

The music is exuberant and cheerful, and it is quite conceivable that the piece could be staged as follows: the assembled singers with a glass of wine in hand toast each other and pay homage to the moment. Live like God in France, that could be the meaning! Ergo bibamus!
